Who is the Visa 400 for?

This visa suits:

  • Workers with skills not available locally
  • Employers needing help with equipment repairs, installations, or emergency work
  • Projects where skills are urgent and short-term

The applicant must be outside Australia when applying and when a decision is made.

Visa 400 Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, the applicant must:

  • Prove the work is temporary and non-ongoing
  • Provide a resume, qualifications, and employer letter
  • Be a genuine visitor who will leave after the work is complete
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Arrive within 6 months of visa grant (or sooner if specified)

Police certificates and health examinations may be required, but this depends on factors such as the applicant’s country of passport, travel history and location at time of application.

We encourage employers to discuss these factors with our Registered Migration Agents to avoid any delays to the process.

Employers must be an Australian organisation and:

  • Provide a document confirming the need for work in Australia and relevant arrangements
  • Prove they can’t find a suitable local worker
  • Show the role won’t affect local jobs or training

  • Stay for up to 6 months (depending on the application)

However:

  • They cannot extend this visa
