Couples planning a future together often face the challenge of long-distance separation throughout the immigration process.
The Subclass 300 Prospective Marriage Visa offers a pathway for engaged couples to reunite and begin building their life in Australia.
This visa allows the applicant to enter Australia to marry their Australian partner within nine months of the visa being granted, after which they can apply for an onshore Partner Visa to continue towards Permanent Residence together.

Subclass 300 Partner Visa Features
The applicant must be outside Australia when applying for the Subclass 300 Prospective Marriage Visa and at the time it is granted.
The Prospective Marriage Visa is available to those in a genuine and ongoing relationship with an eligible partner sponsor – an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who they intend to marry within the visa’s validity period.
The Prospective Marriage Visa process involves:
- Subclass 300: Temporary visa allowing the holder to enter Australia, marry their sponsor, and prepare for the next application stage.
- Subclass 820: Onshore Partner Visa application submitted after marriage, providing temporary residence.
- Subclass 801: Permanent Residence Visa granted several years after the 820 Partner Visa is approved, provided the relationship continues to meet eligibility criteria.
Permanent Residence provides access to Medicare, social services, and eventually eligibility for Australian citizenship.
Dependent children can be included in the application.
