Interstaff providing business sponsorship solutions to help employee migrate to Australia Business Sponsorship Discuss your options

Professional Development Sponsorship

The Professional Development Stream Visa (402) enables businesses to sponsor professionals, managers or government officials to participate in a professional development training program in Australia for up to 18 months. If your business would like to sponsor someone for the Professional Development Stream Visa (402), you’ll first need to be approved as a Training and Research sponsor.

If your business wants to take on employees for occupational training or if you want them to participate in a classroom-based professional development programme, you can consider the Training visa (subclass 407).

The Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408) is suitable for the following individuals and for businesses who want to sponsor:

  • an academic who is invited to collaborate in a research project by an Australian tertiary or research institution or
  • a student or recent graduate who wants to undertake a research activity at an Australian tertiary or research institution related to your field of study
  • an elite sportsperson participating in high-level sports training.

For other Business or Employer Sponsored Visa opportunities in Australia, Interstaff’s Registered Migration and Visa Agents can help with Sponsorship requirements as well as determining the best visa stream your business can proceed with to bring your staff and other essential personnel to Australia to help grow your business.

What’s the process?

To apply to become a sponsor for the Professional Development Stream (402) visa, your business will need to meet a number of requirements based on:

  • Your business’ professional record
  • Whether the professional development program meets the specific criterion required by the Professional Development Visa stream
  • Whether an acceptable professional development agreement has been reached with an eligible overseas employer to conduct the program
  • Whether your business has the capacity to meet its program requirements, financial commitments and sponsorship obligations
  • Whether the employer from outside Australia can also meet their financial commitments and demonstrate compliance with Australia’s immigration laws

If approved, your Professional Development Sponsorship will be valid for up to 3 years or for the duration of the Professional Development Agreement.
