The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) allows businesses to sponsor workers for positions in rural, regional and remote locations of Australia for a permanent visa.
What’s the process?
To sponsor a person for a 187 visa, your business will need to ‘nominate’ your overseas employee. As part of your nomination application, you must prove that:
Your nomination application must also be ‘certified’ by the Regional Certifying Body (RCB) in your state. RCBs are State and Territory government organisations who provide assessments of nomination applications to the Department of Immigration on behalf of the State or Territory government.
There are two streams in which you can nominate an overseas employee – either via the Temporary Residence Transition Stream or the Direct Entry Stream.
Transition Stream
If the person you wish to sponsor already holds a 482 visa and has worked for their current employer for two years, your business may be able to nominate them under the Transition stream.
Direct Entry Stream
Your business can nominate a person under the Direct Entry stream if they have only briefly or never worked in Australia.
