This afternoon on 16 November 2016, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton confirmed the Government’s changes to the 457 visa, which will reduce the time skilled migrants can remain in Australia from 90 days to 60 days if their employment ceases. The change will affect 457 visas from this Saturday 19 November 2016.
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection said the change will strengthen the integrity of the 457 visa scheme, which is designed to supplement rather than compete with the local labour market. The change has raised topical immigration debates around the country.
