This Australia Day long weekend, people across the country will be celebrating everything that makes our nation so amazing. In Perth, there will be plenty of activities for families and friends to enjoy. Here are our top 5 ways to celebrate the Australia Day long weekend in Perth – and best of all, they’re free!
Australia Day Skyworks
The most popular Australia Day event in Perth is the annual Australia Day Skyworks show over the Swan River. Each year the show promises to be bigger and better than the last and judging by last year’s show, we can’t wait to see Perth’s night sky light up again. The fireworks begin at 8 pm, with loads of family-friendly activities starting at 3 pm at some of the popular viewing points. These are Langley Park, the Supreme Court Gardens, St James Mitchell Park and Kings Park. Find out more here.
In the lead up to the Australia Day long weekend fireworks, you can experience an important part of our history and culture with indigenous dance, music art and food at the Birak Concert. The concert will showcase a line up of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent at the Supreme Court Gardens from 3 pm. Don’t forget to bring a picnic blanker and sunscreen.
Free sailing events at Elizabeth Quay
Sail away into the sun this weekend and take part in the City of Perth’s Festival of Sail at Elizabeth Quay. Over the Australia Day long weekend, there will two days of free sailing for children and adults – head down on Sunday and Monday from 10 am to mid afternoon. It’s a great way to stay cool over the weekend while gazing at the scenery of our beautiful city. Find out more here.
