Australia is known for its world-class education system, which is part of the reason why so many people choose to raise their family here. Giving your kids a good education is so important and is an integral part of the Australian lifestyle. If you’ve chosen to base you and your family in Perth, you might be surprised to know new research released this month shows Perth is one of Australia’s most affordable cities to educate your children – whether at a public or private school.
Perth | One of Australia’s Most Affordable Cities for Education
The Australian Scholarship Group’s (ASG) Planning for Education Index compares the total likely costs of educating a child from Kindergarten through to year 12, including the cost of school fees, transport, uniforms, computers and excursions. According to the ASG, parents who plan to send their child to a public school in Perth would pay $54,134 for 13 years of schooling, which is well below the national average of $68,727. The cost to educate your child in a Perth Catholic school over the 13 years was $109,097, while parents who choose an independent institution in Perth would spend $253,919. The study was based on publicly available fee information and data sourced from a survey of ASG members.
Which Australian cities were the most expensive?
Further analysis by Monash University showed more insights into Australia’s most affordable cities. Sydney was the most expensive city for an independent education at $461,999, while Brisbane was the most costly for a public education at $75,601 and Adelaide was the priciest for a Catholic education at $131,000 over a 13 year period.
