A new temporary sponsored parent visa will be introduced in November 2017, however the intake will be capped at 15,000 visas per year. The visa will allow migrants to sponsor their parents in Australia for periods of up to three or five years with an option to renew the visa for a cumulative stay of up to ten years.
Under the new visa, the sponsoring child will have legal liability for any public health expenditure (including aged care arrangements) required by their parent while in Australia. Other parent visa options will not be replaced by this new parent visa and will still remain open to new applicants.
