The Australian student visa system has undergone a major overhaul, with changes being made by the Government to replace the current eight student visa subclasses with two new subclasses, the Student Visa Subclass 500 and Student Guardian Subclass 590.
The consolidation of eight student visa subclasses to two is expected to drive a number of processing efficiencies for the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and will come into effect from 1 July 2016.
The new student visa system, known as the Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF), will introduce new regulatory assessment requirements as well as new financial and evidence-based requirements.
