We’ve recently received news that the Northern Territory nominations for subclass 489 and 190 skilled visa applications have been temporarily suspended for cases where the applicants are outside of the Northern Territory.
What this means for you or your business
The subclass 489 and 190 visas usually allow skilled workers to live and work in the Northern Territory through nomination by the Northern Territory government. If you have a skilled occupation that is in demand in the Northern Territory, the state government may be interested in nominating their support for your visa application under General Skilled Migration (GSM).
However, as The Northern Territory Department of Trade Business and Innovation (DTBI) has temporarily suspended applications for Northern Territory nomination until 1 July 2017, applicants who are not in the Northern Territory will need to either apply after this date or seek other options to work in the state.
According to the Northern Territory DTBI, if you have already submitted your application and you are outside the Northern Territory, your application will not be processed due to the suspension. Business Innovation and Investment Program applicants and applicants who are within the Northern Territory are unaffected by the suspension.
The suspension will also cause delays to businesses engaging employees outside of the Northern Territory who are applying for General Skilled Migration through Northern Territory state nomination.
