One Fine Day
There’s plenty of free things to see and do in Perth and they don’t have to cost you the Earth! We are lucky to have so many natural attractions to visit and with the weather beginning to heat up, we’re excited to start heading out for a good walk to soak up the sunshine. With the CBD located right on the river’s edge, Perth offers a fantastic lifestyle with many riverside paths to help take your mind off the daily grind. Here’s our guide to some of the best riverside walkways to get you out in the sun while sight-seeing some of Perth’s iconic landmarks.
The Crawley Foreshore
A great way to experience the tranquility of the Swan River is to take a walk down by the Crawley foreshore. You can make the trip starting from the CBD foreshore and keep walking all the way down to the Matilda Bay Reserve where there are a number of café’s nearby for a coffee stop. You’ll also pass by the iconic Crawley Edge Boatshed – a lonesome looking shack which provides for a great photo opportunity against the calmness of the Swan River. In fact, it’s serenity makes it a popular location for some of Perth’s best wedding photos!
The South Perth Foreshore
Walking along the South Perth foreshore offers arguably one of the best views of the Perth city as it is situated perfectly opposite the heart of the city. It is also very cyclist friendly if you prefer to ride your bike instead of going for a walk. And if you walk all the way up to the Mends Street jetty, you can cool down with an ice cream at one of the cafés overlooking the river. Some people have even reported sighting dolphins in the Swan River so if you keep an eye out you might just be lucky. It’s a popular walkway for both tourists and locals.
The Elizabeth Quay Foreshore
The Elizabeth Quay foreshore is quickly becoming Perth’s iconic landmark, wrapping the city’s edge with a walkway that offers spectacular views of the city’s skyline from up close and personal. Take a walk across the 20-meter high Elizabeth Quay suspension bridge which is open to both pedestrians and cyclists and when you reach the Barrack Street Jetty, you can even catch a ferry to the South Perth foreshore if you’d like to extend your walk.
